Safety Representative and Safety Committees Regulations 1997

The law sets out how you must consult your employees in different situations and the different choices you have to make.The purpose of these regulations is to provide a legal framework for employers and trade unions to reach an agreement on on arrangements for health and safety representatives and health and safety committees to operate in their workplace. .

These regulations should be read in conjunction with: The Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996. Depending on the circumstances in their workplace, the employer may only have to consult under one set of regulations, or they may have to consult under both.
